The Earthquake in Kotor - 40th Anniversary
On an early morning at 7:19 am, on April 15th 1979, with a destructive magnitude of 7 degrees of Richter scale (9 degrees Mercalli scale), the earthquake shook the whole Montenegrin coastal area, taking 101 lives in Montenegro, and 35 lives in the neighbour Albania. The epicentre was in the Adriatic Sea, between Ulcinj and Bar, and several towns were destroyed, namely Ulcinj, Bar, Petrovac, Budva, Tivat, Kotor, Risan, and Herceg Novi, as well as 250 villages.
