Places of interest
One of the most attractive fortresses not only of the Austro-Hungarian Empire but also of the complete architectural heritage in this area is the fortress of Gorazda. This fortress was, with several other fortifications (Vrmac, Trojica, and Grabovac), the main military base of Austria-Hungary in the southern Adriatic. It had the main purpose of defending the side passage leading to Kotor. The fortification was built between 1884-86, and the shape it has today was given in 1907. It has labyrinth-shape with long halls and spacious rooms. The fortress was used by the Austrians during the First World War. Nowadays, it is abandoned and in need of a new adaptation and valorisation. From the top of the fortress, which is located at an altitude of 452 meters, you will encounter the most beautiful view of the Bay of Tivat.
